Throwback Thursday: Little Brother - "Slow It Down"

The other day I ran across The Minstrel Show album by Little Brother as I was going through old cd's immediately I started to reminisce and the feeling that I had for their music began to replay like it was the first time I heard them. I knew what my Throwback Thursday would be as I held that album in my hand and remembered replaying "Slow It Down" a hundred thousand times. I loved the song and everything it was from the first word right down to the last. The summer of 2007 I seen them play at Cat's Cradle and oh how the building was slammed jammed packed for these dudes that I loved so much and it was crowded with people that loved them the same way I did. Even though it was not an arena but instead a college bar, the aura in the air was exactly the same as that of an arena all because of Little Brother. Hearing this song live was what I loved the most about that night.

Melodic Monday: Usher feat. Alicia Keys - "My Boo"

"It started when we were younger you were mine, my boo", who did not sing every lyric, does not love, or did not put "My Boo" on repeat when it first dropped those years ago? If you say not you I will call your bluff real fast. I can remember loving that chemistry that Usher and Alicia had in the visuals that brought the song to life, that chemistry was delicious. As it came across my play list in the gym I knew it was the song I would use for Melodic Monday because it use to be that jam. As I listened I could not help myself but remember when it first dropped and realize how much a song could make you remember. So as you take a listen this rainy Melodic Monday what does it make you remember. This song is still beautiful and symbolic to this very day and you cannot say it is not. Nicki Minaj Covers Elle Magazine April 2013 Issue

Nicki Minaj will be gracing the cover of the April 2013 issue of Elle Magazine. The Barb showcases her natural beauty on the cover baring minimal make up, sporting beach babe blonde tres', and is dressed in Tom Ford wearing a cleavage revealing black leather jacket paired with black trousers. The Young Money Queen exemplifies a more simplistic beauty about herself in the Elle spread rather than her usual eccentric, and sometimes wild Barbie side. In the issue Nicki describes how scary it was to be in front of the camera without all the glam saying "To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol' crazy lashes— you know, nothing— I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes." On a more personal note Nicki shares was it was like to be bullied by saying "I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell. We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I've always put up this wall— it was a self-defense mechanism growing up— because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It's sad." She then shares advice on how to get respect "My advice to women in general: Even if you're doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want— and don't allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I can't play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. That's what it's all about."
It is very safe to say that I am absolutely smitten with Nicki because of this issue of Elle....That is all!

Melodic Monday: Miguel feat. Wiz Khalifa - "Adorn" (Grammy Performance)

There are certain performances that make a track more real and give it more meaning, and that is exactly what Miguel's Grammy performance of "Adorn" featuring Wiz Khalifa has done. Seeing that performance and watching it over and over again and again makes me love it more and more every time. The fact that Miguel brought Wiz in for the kill of the track that he had already killed by himself made it even better. I am glad I did not post the video with the rest of the world on Grammy weekend, instead I saved it for the most perfect occasion of Melodic Monday.
