Throwback Thursday: Drake featuring Trey Songz - Replacement Girl

  In honor of his extraordinary news about him receiving his high school diploma that he let the world know via twitter last night, I am giving Drake my Throwback spot this week. "Replacement Girl" featuring Trey Songz from Drake's second mixtape Comeback Season  is my spot clincher today. In 2007 Drake became the first unsigned rapper to have a music video on BET when "Replacement Girl" was featured as "New Joint of the Day". Throwback Thursday: P. Diddy - I Need A Girl (Part 1) & ( Part 2)

 

I wanted to take a more mellow approach with my Throwback this week so I picked a song that came in two parts. P Diddy's "I Need A Girl" Part 1  boasted features from Usher and Loon while "I Need A Girl" part 2 boasted features from Loon and Genuwine. Both songs can be found on P. Diddy's We Invented the Remix, which is a remix album by Diddy and members of the Bad Boy fam. A very rare occurrence happened as both parts appeared as chart hits, when Part 1 landed the #2 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Part 2 went #1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart. Both parts of the song had a melodic feel while part two did take a bit more of a rap approach. I could not choose just one so both parts landed a Throwback Thursday spot this week, although Part 1 may just be my favorite.

I am completely in love with the word Melodic and for quite sometime I have wanted to do a Melodic Monday piece, and with today being Monday I find it only fitting. The beginning of the week can be the pits and sometimes you just need a melody to carry you through the first day of the week, back into the swing of things. If you are anything like me I wake up with melodies in my head and cannot go a morning, a day, or a night without one.  I have often referred to some artists as being Melodic because of their tone and how beautiful their effort can sound because of it. Today Frank Ocean has been my Melodic Monday muse with his charting single "Thinking About You" from his latest project and debut studio album Channel Orange. Frank is nothing less than beautiful in the midst showcasing his delicious falsetto with this intriguing ballad.

Throwback Thursday: Kanye West - Last Call

  On Monday as me and my best friend were driving to the the airport so that she could go back to the concrete jungle where dreams are made, we were doing a little Tangible Art listening. As we put in Kanye's College Dropout and she went to this particular track, I then knew it was meant for me to use for my Throwback pick this week. Listening to College Dropout alone will make you hype but listening to it with your best friend, the one who you listened to it with when it first dropped 8 time changing years ago, well that's just priceless. Kanye is priceless and the rhythm that he has given music is boundless. His growth as an artist from the days of his track until now is riveting and has been an incredible journey to watch and listen to. This song will forever be engraved in my memory for two of the best evident reasons. I was so glad to find this live performance of the song and not to mention the beautiful John Legend is on the keys.                                                      XO
