Throwback Thursday: Nas -The World Is Yours

As I have spent the last week with Nas’ new album on repeat I felt it was only fair game to give the present time Life Is Good rapper the Throwback Thursday spot with his back in the day Illmatic hit “The World Is Yours.” The song is said to be one of the greatest Hip Hop songs ever recorded and with Nas on the mic you obviously know why. He is one of the greatest Hip Hop artists of the last two decades and definitely one of the greatest of all time. The song and video pays tribute to the movie Scarface and its famous quote “The World Is Mine” that will live forever. "The World is Yours" was also known for the foundation of what use to be the Jay-Z and Nas feud when Jay-Z sampled it on his first single "Dead Presidents", using one of Nas’ lines "I'm out for presidents to represent me" as the chorus. Since then feuds have passed but one thing has remain constant the album in which this song was given life from is still one of the best Hip Hop albums to have ever been created and so is this song.

Shawn Chrystopher has released his very own "Lovestory" which includes 15 tracks and an all star line up of big name features and producers. The features include Dom Kennedy, GLC, Kris Kasanova, and Phil Ade; with production from Shawn Chrys, Zaire Koalo, PM, Cameron Wallace, and Timbaland. This will be mark Shawn Chrys’ last free project, whose debut album “My Name is Shawn,” is due  out later this year executive produced by Timbaland. Why We Fell In Love Wedensday - Nas

Why did we fall in love with the Illmatic Hip Hop artist known as Nas? Why is it that even today years after he first introduced himself to the world do we still love him the same, if not even more. Nas is one of the greatest Hip Hop artists to ever pick up a mic and that is not debatable. The love the world has came to have for him has derived from his genius abilities to transcend life into lyrics that are relatable to not just his life but other people’s life as well. He has given us music that has been an innovative catalyst to Hip Hop keeping it ever so alive and growing. His first album Illmatic introduced us to a poetic keepsake that would change the game forever, while the album denoted as one of Hip Hop’s greatest albums if not the greatest album of all time. Nasir had eight more albums following laying the stepping stones of his journey including Nastradamus (1999), Street's Disciple (2004), and Hip Hop Is Dead (2006) all of which allowed growth for his monumental tenth album Life Is Good. In that very album as I listened I remembered WHY it was that Nas had become one of my favorite artists of all time. I also knew why the world had fallen in love with this Illmatic soul and it was because he knew just how to deliver music in a way people could relate, not just one person but a million people of different sort. He can create real and allow you to feel just what he is portraying, not many artists can do that. When the beat drops and you know he is about to spit that first bar just know that it will be something incredibly special, because he is NAS and that is why we fell in love with him.
And Even To This Day He Only Needs ONE MIC.....

However, it was a couple of nights ago that I seen a tweet come across my timeline with the link to photographer,director, and editor Evan Roger's behind the scenes footage from the Bazaar shoot. I immediately took a look and was hooked at the video and what I saw. I thought the spread in the magazine was beautiful but the footage was even more amazing. Nas - No Introduction

This post is only because I wanted to share the song after listening to it over and over again. Listen to the beat and the way the piano plays, then the strings vibe in, and the drums start pounding. These things make you excited for what is about to take place when Nas drops that first line, it is like a breath of fresh air and something that you are in need of.  Nas and his Illmatic aura never goes out if style, this song is just like hearing him for the first time again. Since then I have listened to it consistently and realized that KaliRaps has got skill and great talent and is on the rise to do big things in the future. Frank Ocean Kicks Off Channel Orange Tour In Seattle (Video)

This past Friday night just a couple of weeks after a controversial sexual orientation media explosion Frank Ocean took center stage to kick of his Channel Orange tour in Seattle, WA . Flaunting his signature American flag bandanna, the Odd Future singer performed his hit “Novacane” from his Nostalgia: ULTRA mixtape, as well as cuts from his Def Jam debut, Channel Orange. During the show Mr. Ocean performed "Bad Religion" and according to The Seattle Times it was the "most well received song" from his fans. Other songs on the set list were "Sweet Life", "American Wedding" from his upcoming album Channel Orange, and Frank also did a cover of Prince's "When You Were Mine".
Channel Orange is expected to make an impressive debut with digital sales reaching over 100,000 copies with its physical release being this Tuesday July 17th. According to Billboards, the album may reach as high as the #2 spot.

Frank Ocean Interview w/ Zane Lowe of BBC Radio 1

Frank Ocean chopped it up on the phone with BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe to discuss the release of “channel ORANGE”. Frank talks about why he released the album a week early saying “It was the plan all along, I kind of wanted to mirror what Watch The Throne did”. Throwback Thursday: Mase - Feel So Good

There are many artists that I love and Mase happens to be one of them. His lazy tongue flows and his bad boy charisma are only a couple of things out of many that bring fond memories of the guy we once heard back in the day all over Bad Boy tracks. The Bad Boy himself clinches my Throwback Thursday spot this week with his hit Feel So Good from his 1997 album Harlem World. The single served as Mase's most successful single of the three singles he released from Harlem World, and became certified platinum 3 months after its release. The main sample the song uses is from Kool & the Gang's "Hollywood Swinging". I am in hopes that this Bad Boy will make a come back in his own way and in his own time.
