Throwback Thursday: 112 feat. The Notorious B.I.G. & Mase - "Only You"

112 made their debut in the music world with their #1 hit single "Only You" which was featured on their debut album with the same title. The track enlisted features from two of raps Bad Boy members The Notorious B.I.G. and Mase and was also written by some other Bad Boy members Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and the members of 112. "Only You" was only the beginning of the groups success as they were notably successful in the latter part of the 1990's and the earlier years of 2000. Although they have not had any new material out in quite awhile it is still nice to hear the good stuff that once was, and that is what Throwback Thursday is all about.

J. Cole & Drake's Apologies For Offensive Autism Lyrics

In recent weeks there have been quite a few rappers to be scrutinized in the media for some of their lyrics in songs. J. Cole is the most recent rapper that took some backlash for one of his lyrics in the "Jodeci Freestyle" in which he collaborated with Drake. Cole's lyric “I’m artistic, you n*ggas is autistic, retarded” was one that caused controversy because of the reference towards Autism. After the all the negative attention and a nearly 5,000 name petition that was started by the ABA "Anti-Bullying Alliance" the North Carolina native took the initiative to write a personal apology to Autism Speaks. The apology was one  that addressed the mistake made but was also one that gave an honest opinion from that of a human being who was embarrassed and regretful of the hurt in which he may have caused. Jermaine's writings of his apology spoke volumes and was one that should not have been taken lightly as it was the sincerest form of an "I'm Sorry" that anyone could have ever given. With Cole's apology came a statement and another apology from Drake in his most sincerest and respectful demeanor. With both of their apologies and public statements came the most correction a mistake could ever have and that was the removal of that hurtful lyric from the "Jodeci Freestyle". As I read Cole's apology I could almost weep because it showed not the character of a so-called "rapper" but that of a Human Being, with that being said "Cole Made Me Proud".

Throwback Thursday: J. Cole - "Work Out"

To celebrate the fact that J. Cole's Born Sinner album is the number 1 album in the country right now I wanted to deliver an oldie but goodie for the Throwback Thursday today with Cole's track "Work Out". The track is the lead single from his 2011 debut studio album Cole World: The Sideline Story. This was the song that Cole referred to in the track "Let Nas Down" from his new album Born Sinner when he said:
"Dion called me when it dropped, sounded sad but sincere
Told me Nas heard your single and he hate that sh*t
Said you the one, yo why you make that sh*t
I can't believe I let Nas down"
After hearing the song "Let Nas Down" Nas recorded his own lyrics over the track and titled it "Made Nas Proud", where he told Jermaine that he did not let him down, instead he made him proud. So again congrats to the man with the number 1 album Mr. Born Sinner himself J.Cole for giving us music that we love and can remember you by on Throwback Thursday, You Make Us Proud.

                                                                                              XO

J. Cole's "Born Sinner" #1 On The Charts

J. Cole and his Born Sinner album has taken it all the way to the top of the charts clinching the number 1 spot this week shooting ahead of Wale and Kanye West. Since dropping his album 3 weeks ago Cole has held steady at the number 2 spot falling a little shy behind Kanye West's Yeezus album during the first week and staying at number 2 when Wale's The Gifted took over the number 1 spot last week. The North Carolina native has officially surpassed Kanye West's Yeezus album sales of 431,000 units after selling 58,000 units this week bringing him to a total of 439,000 units. Cole who's album had the scheduled release date of June 25th after pushing the album back a time before pushed it forward to June 18th after Kanye made the announcement that he would release his album on "June Eighteen". Jermaine made the announcement via twitter by saying “Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation,”, “Which is exactly why I'm moving my release date up. Born Sinner June 18th.” This week after the announcement was made that his album had clinched the number 1 spot since being released and had also surpassed Kanye's record sales the Roc Nation artist took to twitter again showing his humbled appreciation. I believe it is safe to say that J. Cole has put North Carolina on the map!
