Throwback Thursday: Cam'Ron - Oh Boy ft. Juelz Santana

The other day when I heard this song play on the radio I knew then that I was gonna use it for my Throwback Thursday pick. Hearing Cam's voice brought back memories of Dipset and the way my best friend knew every lyric to every song, and the way at one point the Hip Hop world was all about Dipset, wow how time has changed everything. "Oh Boy" is from Cam'ron's album Come Home with Me and was Grammy nominated. The song was produced by Just Blaze who originally made the song for Memphis Bleek.

Introducing : blog.evanerogers.com

As I clicked through endless pages of Evan Rogers blog it was then that I realized how creative and personal something could be without even trying to make it just that. I seen something incredible that took very little to no words at all to give description to help define personal moments and give meaning to ones journey. Evan's life and inspiration is what gives the blog its impeccable substance. I am madly in love with this blog and everything about it. Whether it is words or no words, a picture or a video, or maybe just a thought it's something inspiring that gives art a form and its meaning. Go visit  Evan's blog now!

**Note that Evan E. Rogers was listed in the credits at the end Oprah's Interview with Rihanna........#PROUD :)******

**This is such a great game to play for every person who cannot seem to disconnect from the world at the appropriate times.

Everyone puts their phones in the middle of the table. Whoever cracks first by touching their phone, pays for the entire meal. The purpose of the game was to get everyone off their phones, away from twitter, facebook, texting, etc and to encourage conversations. In other words, help cure the “Anti-Social Social Media Craziness”. Here are the rules: 1. The game starts after everyone sits down. 2. Everybody places their phone in the middle of the table. 3. The first person to touch their phone loses the game. 4. Loser of the game pays the bill for everyone’s meal. 5. If the bill comes before anyone has touched their phone, everybody is declared a winner and pays for their own meal. Are You Game?

Evan, I am excited to watch your journey but more importantly to see the person you will become through experiencing journey <3!

Throwback Thursday: OutKast - Rosa Parks

I have been thinking about Throwback Thursday for most of the day today and still at 10 pm I had nothing. OutKast was on my list all day but I was back and fourth with whether or not I was going to use them until I seen a certain tweet from @SpitsNelson that served as my CONFIRMATION.

Rosa Parks was the first single from the duo's 1998 album Aquemini, and title comes from the civil rights activist Rosa Parks. In 1999, Rosa Parks sued OutKast and LaFace Records over the song but it was not until  2005 that a settlement was reached and OutKast, producers, and their record label paid an undisclosed cash settlement and agreed to work with the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development in creating education programs about the life of Rosa Parks.

Video: Lupe Fiasco - Bitch Bad

The very controversial Lupe Fiasco  drops the visuals to “B*tch Bad” to get his point across. The rapper turns 3 well spoken verses into 3 well scripted play acts, each helping to decipher the mentality behind the term “bitch.” Act One shows us how young men learn and interpret the term, Act Two shows us the same for young women, and Act Three exposes the communication clash  between the two groups.
Lupe's newest project, Food & Liquor: The Great American Album Pt. 1, is slated to drop digitally and in stores on September 25th.

Throwback Thursday : Bone Thugs-n-Harmony

As I pick my Throwback Thursday song every week I try to make it a song that is definitely a song from the past and makes a statement about the growth that hip hop has had, but that music has made also. This weeks Throwback Thursday did not come to me as weeks passed had came to me, instead I had to really dig for this one. I went back to when I was first I introduced to hip hop and I remembered a friend of mine who always listened to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and remembered how I came to like them myself. They were a group that took hip hop to new ventures as far as sound and the way they produced rap in a harmonic pace. That is why this week the melodic Bone Thugs-n-Harmony clinches my Throwback Thursday spot with there 1996 song “Tha Crossroads”. The song was originally named “Crossroad” but was remade as a dedication song to the group’s mentor and late rap icon Easy E after he died of complications from the AIDS virus and was renamed “Tha Crossroads”. The original song “Crossroad” appears on the edited version of BTNH’s E. 1999 Eternal while both the original and the remade version appear on the European release. The song is performed by four of the group’s members Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, and Wish Bone and was slower than the group’s usual fast tempo rhymes while also eliminating profanity and creating a heartfelt effect. The song was a hit worldwide and has been certified 2 times platinum and won a Grammy Award in 1997.

Throwback Thursday : 2Pac - California Love

I did not debate much over what artist I would use for Throwback Thursday because I had already made up my mind that it would be Tupac. "California Love" has sold over  1,300,000 digital copies despite being released almost a decade before the digital era. Though the song never made it on any of Tupac's original studio albums it can be found on Dr. Dre's The Chronic II: A New World Odor (Poppa's Got A Brand New Funk). It can also be found on Shakur's compilation of Greatest Hits and on the United Kingdom version of All Eyez on Me. With this being Tupac's best and most successful song it really reiterates how incredible of an artist that he was and still continues to be to this very day.
